In the contemporary digital age, social media has emerged as a powerful platform for communication, knowledge sharing, and dialogue. Among the many subjects discussed online, religion remains one of the most sensitive and influential. Religious dialogue on social media has introduced new opportunities and challenges for individuals and societies alike. On the positive side, it provides easier access to religious knowledge, promotes interfaith and inter-sectarian understanding, and encourages global connectivity between scholars and followers. However, the same platforms also contribute to the spread of misinformation, fuel sectarianism, and create space for extremism and hate speech. This dual nature of religious dialogue raises an essential question: how can societies maximize the benefits of social media while minimizing its harms? This article explores both the constructive and destructive impacts of online religious discourse and highlights the need for responsible engagement, ethical guidelines, and critical thinking in order to utilize social media as a tool for peace and harmony rather than division and conflict.
